Sr. Emma Goeckner

June 9, 1930 — August 27, 2018

SR. EMMA GOECKNER, ASC , 88 , of Adorers of the Blood of Christ, Ruma Center, Ruma, Illinois, died peacefully in the early morning hours on Monday, August 2 7, 2018 at the Ruma Center.

She was born to the late William and Rosa (nee Probst) Goeckner in Bishop Creek (near Effingham, Illinois on June 9, 1930.

She made her first vows on July 1, 1946 and final vows on July 1, 1951. She had been professed for 72 years.

Sr. Emma’s ministry for more than 60 years was in dietary service. She also did housekeeping in small convents in Vienna and Zell, Missouri; in Olney, Illinois; and in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Her dietary ministry was spent primarily in large institutions. These missions in Illinois included the Catholic Children’s Home in Alton, St. Henry Seminary in Belleville, St. Teresa Academy in East St. Louis, and the Ruma Center. She also served at De Mattias Hall, the ASC house of studies near St. Louis University.

She received her Food Service Supervisor’s certificate during several summers of study at Fontbonne University in St. Louis.

Preceded in death by: Parents, Step-Mothers – Clara Willenborg and Elizabeth Koester, 3 Brothers – William, Alphonse and Norbert (Eleanor), 4 Sisters – Sr. Mary Jerome, ASC, Sr. Mary William, ASC, Sr. Martha, ASC and Sr. Adella, ASC; 1 Nephew – Dale Goeckner, 1 Nephew-in-law – John Berdeyen, 1 Step Sister – Virginia Koester and 1 Step-Niece – Ruth Boos
