Irene Ann Josephine Mathews

IRENE ANN JOSEPHINE “JANIE” MATHEWS , 76, formerly of Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018 after a long battle with lung cancer in Danvers, Massachusetts.  For the past forty years, Janie resided in Revere, Massachusetts.

She was born to the late Arthur and Rose (nee Sommer) Mathews on August 15, 1941 in Prairie du Rocher, Illinois.  Janie was only 7 years old when her parents suddenly died. Her uncle and aunt, Joseph and Carmeline Patti Mathews, invited her and Dolores (Sr. Rose Anthony) to join their big family. Janie enjoyed living with her cousins - Lyle, John, Terry, Mark, Patti and Elaine.

Janie graduated from the University of Missouri in December of 1964 with a B.A. degree in English. After graduation, Janie moved to New York to pursue a career as an editor for several textbook publishing companies.  Her next move was to Boston, Massachusetts. She worked for D.C. Heath Publishing Company as a senior editor in their textbook division.

It was Janie’s wishes to be cremated.
