Janet "Jan" Gray

April 22, 1950 — February 10, 2018

JANET “JAN” GRAY, 67 , of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 8:30 am, Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Integrity Healthcare in Columbia, Illinois.

She was born to Nathaniel Lewis and Dorothy Jean (nee Lochhead) Gray on April 22, 1950 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Chester, Illinois and had worked as a substitute teacher, a teacher’s aide and a caregiver.

Jan attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska.

She went to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in San Francisco more than a dozen times and got to know some of the headliners, like Emmylou Harris and many more of that ilk on a first name basis.  Her mother worked many years for the festival founder Warren Hellman, so Jan sat in front of the same stage (banjo stage) in Golden Gate Park and also had access to the side stage where she met them.

Jan loved her nieces, nephews and their children and she loved to play bingo.
