ETHEL M. MONTROY, 97, formerly of Walsh, Illinois, passed away at 2:35 am, Friday, February 9, 2018 at Coulterville Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Coulterville, Illinois.
She was born to the late Anton and Anna (nee Hecktor) Hennrich on May 9, 1920 in Walsh, Illinois.
Ethel was the oldest of four children. She helped her Dad in the fields. One of the stories she often told was of riding a Sulky plow pulled by a team of horses.
Ethel married Lawrence L. Montroy on February 26, 1938 at St. Pius V Catholic Church, Walsh, Illinois.
Together they raised 13 children. He preceded her in death September 8, 1994.
Ethel was a humble, caring, and loving mother. She always put the needs of her children before her own. She made the best fried chicken for Sunday dinner. Every summer she filled the cupboard with jelly made from the blackberries gathered by her children. Her oatmeal cookies and chocolate pudding were legendary.
She was a member of St. Pius V Catholic Church, Walsh, Illinois. Ethel was a devout Catholic. She taught her children to have faith, how to pray and to trust in the Lord. She always led by example. Ethel loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Ethel was a double cancer survivor. With failing eye sight and hearing, she never complained. She always smiled and thanked those who cared for her. She gently left this world, but her loving spirit remains in the hearts of all whose lives she touched.
