IDA MAE LAUBER, 86, of Ellisville, Missouri, passed away Monday, February 5, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Chesterfield, Missouri.
She was born to the late Emory and Anna (nee Peyrott) Mudd on October 26, 1931 in Prairie du Rocher, Illinois.
Ida Mae married Robert Lauber on April 21, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher, Illinois; he survives.
She was a homemaker and for many years worked for J.C. Penny’s at West County Mall in St. Louis. Ida Mae was a quilter and loved to bake at Christmas. She also enjoyed gardening .
She was a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Manchester, Missouri . She served on committees at church and also helped serve school lunches.
Ida Mae was very proud of her 11 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and her four children and their spouses. Her great grandchildren brought such joy to her in her last few years. Laughter with them came so easily to her.
Mae’s own many accomplishments, included her completing her GED diploma at the same time as her two oldest children graduated High School in Berkeley. She studied alongside them at the same kitchen table every evening and received her GED in 1970. We so admire her for that effort.
In 1971, Mae and Rob happily accepted a foreign exchange student, Paulo, from Brazil into their home for one year. After ten years of staying in touch and getting to know Paulo’s friends and family in Brazil, Mae and Rob traveled to Brazil in 1981. This was a remarkable trip for Mae and Rob; who never stopped learning about new people and places. Mae was also able to travel to Europe and all over the United States from Alaska to Vermont visiting her children and grandchildren.
Mae’s generosity extended to everyone – her devotion to Rob, constant support of her children and grandchildren, and her love for her in-laws and extended family.
Mae had a joy for dancing as a young woman and mother. Her laughter that was so contagious, and she kept us on our toes with her practical jokes......especially on April Fools Day. Her spirit lives on in each of us.
We will miss her generous spirit and her comfort and support to us when we needed her. We love you Mom, Grandma, Mae.
