GENE BAUGHMAN, 80 , of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 12:55 am, Monday, December 4, 2017 at Memorial Hospital in Chester, Illinois.

He was born to the late Lawrence M. and Florence (nee Haacke) Baughman on November 21, 1937 in Chester, Illinois.

Gene first worked at Spartan Printing. He then worked as a Supply Supervisor and Recreation Director at Menard Correctional Center in Chester, Illinois. He also hosted over 60 foreign exchange students in his life.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois. He was also a member of Chester Country Club. Gene coached basketball at St. Mary’s Catholic, Chester Public, St. John Lutheran, and St. Mark’s Lutheran Schools. He helped start the soccer league in Chester. He also coached summer baseball in Chester and Steeleville. He was an animal lover. Gene received Governor Outreach Awards for Volunteer Services, National Jaycee Award, and Citizen of the Year Awards from Chester Chamber of Commerce. He was an Air Force Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post # 487, Chester, Illinois.
