LLOYD “SAM” A. BROWN, SR., 94, of Red Bud, Illinois, passed away at 3:26 am, Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Red Bud Regional Hospital, Red Bud, Illinois.
Sam was the 5th child of ten children to Noble and Nettie (nee Dunlap) Brown. He was born on July 2, 1922 on a farm in Roots, Illinois.
He married Gwenneth “Gwen” M. Goepfert on November 13, 1976 in Ada, Oklahoma; she preceded him in death on September 29, 2002.
Sam had been a Farmer, Construction Worker and Hotel Manager in Branson for several years. He was hard working man who loved hunting and fishing.
He was a WWII Veteran was inducted into the Army on December 15, 1942 and served valiantly until his discharge on January 5, 1946. He was a Sergeant in the 50th Engineer Combat Battalion. His Battalion was in the invasion of Okinawa Island on April 1, 1945.
Sam was member of the American Legion Post # 622 in Prairie du Rocher, Illinois and Fort Chartres Sportsman Club. He was instrumental in building both of these places.
Sam was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. He was filled with optimism and courage. Always full-throttle ahead and determined to achieve his best in everything he did. He was man who always enjoyed life to its fullest. He was an inspiration to all he knew. Loved by many and will never be forgotten.
