He was born to the late Frank J. and Mabel (nee Ling) Scherle on March 4, 1921 at Evansville, Illinois.

Percy was married to Irene E. Schmidt on September 18, 1947 at St. Leo Catholic Church, Modoc, Illinois. She preceded him in death October 15, 2006

He was a farmer and a member of the Randolph County Farm Bureau.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ruma, Illinois.
