Bernice Elma Smith

BERNICE ELMA SMITH, 91, of Red Bud, Illinois, passed away at 7:35 pm, Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Red Bud Regional Hospital, Red Bud, Illinois.

She was born to the late Charles A. and Caroline (nee Hecke) Voges on January 13, 1926 in rural Monroe County, Illinois.

She married Ervin W. Smith on September 1, 1945 in Waterloo, Illinois; he preceded in death on April 20, 1999.

She had been a homemaker and also co-owner along with her husband, Ervin, of North County Home Center in Red Bud.  During the war, she worked at American Furnace Company.

She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Red Bud, Illinois and the women’s fellowship at church. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She loved traveling with her husband.  She was an avid gardener and cook. She enjoyed fishing and hunting.
