ROGER G. WICKLEIN, 71, of Collinsville, Illinois, formerly of Ellis Grove, Illinois, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri.
He was born to the late Glen and Linda (nee Geitz) Wicklein on September 16, 1945 at his home in Evansville, Illinois.
He married the love of his life, Carol Gross, on June 1, 1968 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Evansville, Illinois; she survives.
Roger entered the Army in December 1965, serving in Vietnam in 1966-67 with a MACV training team. He received the Army Commendation Medal.
After his discharge from the Army, he was employed at McDonnell Douglas Corp in St. Louis. In 1971, he began working for the State of Illinois at Fort Kaskaskia Historic Site. In 1976, he was promoted to Site Superintendent at Ft. Kaskaskia, Pierre Menard Home and Kaskaskia Bell Historic Sites. He retired after 32 years of service.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville, Illinois. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed watching Cardinal’s Baseball and Nascar races, and loved listening to Blue Grass Music.
