Melvin "Jack" Schulte

MELVIN “JACK” SCHULTE, 93 , of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 5:26 am, Monday, October 17, 2016 at The Manor at Craig Farms in Chester, Illinois.

He was born to the late Henry and Elsie (nee Schamel) Schulte on December 26, 1922 in McBride, Missouri.

Jack retired from the Federal Barge Line and Chester Mental Health Center in Chester, Illinois. He served in World War II with the 104th Infantry Timber Wolf Division in and received three Battle Stars, a Combat Infantry Badge and a Bronze Star. He served in combat in Belgium, Holland and Germany. He crossed the Rhine River into Germany and was there for the German surrender.

He was a charter member of the VFW Post # 4282 in Perryville, Missouri and the Moose Lodge #1764 in Chester. He was a member of VFW Post #3553 in Chester, Illinois, American Legion #487 in Chester, Life Timber Wolf Association and the AFSCME Retiree Club.

Jack was a member of the undefeated 1941 Perryville High School all Conference Football Team. He was a 1942 graduate of Perryville High School.
