JOHN GIBSON BUTLER, 69 , of Chester, Illinois, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016 at his residence.
He was born to the late Robert Gibson and Mary Virginia (nee: Duvall) Butler on July 3, 1946 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
He married Donella K. Snyder on December 27, 1970 in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She survives.
John worked as a Guidance Counselor and Coach for Chester Community School District #139 and retired in 2005. He coached Girls Basketball and Girls Softball and is the winningest coach in Chester history in both sports. He also coached Golf and Boys Basketball.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Chester, Illinois. He was a member of the Elks Club for 50 years, life member of the V.F.W. Post #3553, member of the American Legion Post #487, Eagles Club Aerie #3252, and Chester Country Club. He was a Vietnam Veteran, serving proudly in the U.S. Army with the 199th LIB.
