SISTER MARY AUDREY WOOD, ASC, of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ, Ruma Center, Ruma, Illinois, died at 3:15 am, Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Ruma Center, Ruma, Illinois. She was 90 years old and had been professed for 74 years. She was born to the late Raymond and Loretta (nee Plappert) Wood in East St. Louis, Illinois on December 11, 1923. She made her first vows as an Adorer of the Blood of Christ on July 1, 1940 and final profession on July 1, 1945. Received her Bachelor of Science degree from St. Louis University in 1963 and her Master's degree in Education, with a specialty in reading, also from St. Louis University, in 1974. She was certified as a catechist in the Dioceses of Belleville. She maintained her certification by continuing to take courses in theology. For 50 years Sister Mary Audrey served as an elementary teacher for primary and middle grade students. Among her places of ministry in Illinois were Catholic Children's Home in Alton, St. Andrew in Murphysboro, St. Mary in Mt. Carmel, Sacred Heart in Dupo, St. Mary in Chester, Immaculate Conception in Centreville, St. Bruno in Pinckneyville, St. George in New Baden and St. Rose in St. Rose, where she tutored students in the upper grades. She also taught at Visitation in Vienna, MO and St. Augustine in Kelso, MO. Following her lengthy career in teaching, Sr. Mary Audrey retired from the classroom in 1994 and spent several years in Belleville, volunteering at St. Henry's School as a tutor and librarian; she also served as Eucharistic Minister at Memorial Hospital.
