SISTER ADELLA GOECKNER, ASC, of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ, Ruma Center, Ruma, Illinois, passed away at 12:30 pm, Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Ruma Center, Ruma, Illinois. She was 95 years old and had been professed 78 years. She was born to the late William and Rosa (nee Probst) Goeckner in Bishop Creek (near Effingham), Illinois on October 8, 1918. She made her first vows as an Adorer of the Blood of Christ on July 2, 1936 and final profession on July 1, 1941. Sister Adella spent her entire religious life in the medical profession, beginning as a nurses' aide, a staff nurse, then as an anesthetist, surgeon's assistant and administrator. She served at St. Vincent (now Taylorville Memorial) Hospital in Taylorville, IL, St. Clement (now Red Bud Regional) Hospital in Red Bud, IL, Clementine Residence in Red Bud and the Province Center in Ruma. Even after retirement in 1996, Sr. Adelle continued working part-time as a nurse at the Ruma Center. She served as administrator and anesthetist for several years at St. Clement Hospital, and later as nurse and supervisor of the retired sisters at Clementine Residence in Red Bud. She received her certificate in nursing from the Nursing School in Enid, OK in 1943, her certification as nurse anesthetist at St. John's School of Nursing in Springfield, IL in 1946, and her certificate as a surgeon's assistant at the Nursing School in Hamilton, OH in 1974.
