JANICE MARIE STRAIGHT-SMITH, 70, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 3:07 pm, Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at her residence. Jan was born to the late Michael T. and Alice L. (nee Rodely) Korando on August 4, 1944 in Red Bud, Illinois. She married James Smith on May 23, 2014 in Chester, Illinois; he survives. Jan was a Medical Laboratory Technician at Memorial Hospital in Chester, Illinois where she retired after 45 years of service. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Catholic Council of Women in Chester, Illinois. She was a Eucharistic Minister at Church and also took communion to the shut-ins. She was a lifelong member of V.F.W Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary, both of Chester, Illinois. She was a member and officer of the Chester Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She loved to travel and the water, especially swimming. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
