SISTER MADELEINE (Dorothy) LAURENT, ASC, 97 of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ, Ruma Center, Ruma, Illinois, died at 12:44 am, Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Ruma Center, Ruma, Illinois. She was born to the late Amadee and Norine (nee Peyrot) Laurent in Prairie du Rocher, Illinois on November 30, 1916. She made her first vows as an Adorer of the Blood of Christ on July 2, 1934 and final profession on July 1, 1939. Sister Madeleine served in the medical field as a nurse and supervisor in Illinois hospitals: St. Vincent (now Memorial) Hospital in Taylorville (1939-45, 1948-49, 1950-56, 1958-62); Good Samaritan in Mt. Vernon (1945-46); St. Andrew (now St. Joseph) Memorial in Murphysboro (1962-71); and St. Clement (now Red Bud Regional) in Red Bud (1972-87). She served at the Adorers retirement centers: Clementine Residence in Red Bud (1971-72, 1980-82, 1987-90); and at the Ruma Center in Ruma (1990-2005). She retired at the Ruma Center in 2005. Sr. Madeleine volunteered with Mother Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India for six months in1972. Sr. Madeleine graduated from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis and received her BS in Nursing from St. Louis University. She served as supervisor of surgery, obstetrics, medical and surgical units during her nursing career.
