SISTER CELESTE (MARY AQUINA) COMPAS, ASC, 104 of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ, Ruma Center, Ruma, Illinois, died at 1:25 am, Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Ruma Center, Ruma, Illinois. She was born to the late Frank and Amelia (nee Dunger) Compas on November 3, 1909 in Kelso, Missouri. She made her first vows as an Adorer of the Blood of Christ on July 2, 1933 and final profession on July 1, 1938. Received her Bachelor of Science degree from St. Louis University in 1958. Certified in the Elementary School Religion Program in the Archdiocese of St. Louis and the Diocese of Belleville. Sister Celeste served as a teacher, mostly for primary grades, for 47 years. She often taught in the parish school of religion on Saturdays and played the organ on Sundays. Her places of ministry included school in Herrin, IL (1934-36), Olney, IL (1936-38), Mt. Carmel, IL (1938-44), St. Rose, IL (1944-46), Damiansville, IL (1946-47), Dahlgren, IL (1947-51), Bartelso, IL (1951-62), Flora, IL (1962-64), Festus, MO (1964-67, 75-76), Salem, IL (1967-69) , Cahokia, IL (1969-70), St. Libory, IL (1970-75), O'Fallon, IL (1976-79) and Red Bud, IL (1979-82). During the last seven years of active ministry, she served as a parish minister to the elderly in Kelso, MO (1988-95). Sister Celeste retired to the Ruma Center in 1995.
