Kay was married to James Surman on February 23, 1974 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Chester, Illinois, who survives. She was a retired Lieutenant at the Menard Correctional Center, Chester, Illinois. Kay was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Chester Illinois and the V.F.W.
