HAZEL "KATIE" COWELL, 90 of Peoria, AZ, formerly of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 8:30 am, Monday, October 21, 2013 at Suntown Assisted Living Home in Glendale, AZ. She was born to Charles and Maud (nee: Harper) Barger on December 30, 1922 in Creal Springs, Illinois. Katie married Warren "Mickey" Cowell on November 28, 1941 in Chester, IL. In 1973, they moved from Chester to Sunsites, AZ. Mickey preceded her in death on March 27, 1986 in Tucson, AZ after which Katie moved to Phoenix, AZ. She attended the St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Sun City, AZ. The most important thing in Katie's life was spending time with her family. While living in Chester, Katie loved to bowl and play pinochle with family and friends. After moving to Sunsites, AZ she golfed, traveled, loved to knit and latch hook, enjoyed meeting and entertaining her many new friends. Later after moving to Phoenix, she played bingo, went to casinos, did crossword puzzles daily and read novels. She lived life to the fullest and even had a beer or two.
