DOROTHY M. JANY KERKHOVER, 84, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, formerly of Chester, Illinois and Perryville, Missouri, passed away at 12:00 pm, Friday, August 2, 2013 at The Lutheran Home, Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Dorothy was born to the late Mathew and Angela (nee Saale) Devos on March 16, 1929 at St. Louis, Missouri. Dorothy was married to Herman M. Jany on June 27, 1953 and to this union was born two children, Michele and Michael. Herman preceded her in death on October 17, 1984, after 31 years of marriage. Dorothy then married Louis J. Kerkhover in April 1986, at Chester, Illinois and enjoyed 16 years of marriage before Louis' death on January 11, 2002. Her 34 year secretarial career consisted of 8 years as a legal secretary in law offices in St. Louis and Chester; 6 years in a tax accounting office in Chester, and 20 years as secretary to the business administrator of Menard Correctional Center in Chester. She enjoyed hobbies of quilting, canning garden produce and, when her husbands were living, dancing and traveling throughout the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Chester Illinois, the Blessed Virgin Mary Altar Sodality at St. Mary's, the Chester Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and was a promoter of the Miraculous Medal Assn. in Perryville, Missouri.
