CHARLES LOUIS BUATTE, 89, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 11:05 pm, Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Riverview at the Park Care Center, Ste Genevieve, MO. Charles was born to the late Joseph F. and Bessie (nee Branom) Buatte on May 31, 1923 at Sparta, Illinois. He married Grace Agnes Jungewaelter on June 12, 1943 at Sioux Falls, SD; she survives. He had worked for 40 years for the Department of Army, Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District. He retired on May 31, 1985. Charles was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chester, the Knights of Columbus #3790, Chester where he served two terms as Grand Knight & also served a four year term as District Deputy for Southern Illinois, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Kaskaskia Assembly, V.F.W. Post #3553, Chester where he was a Past Commander, American Legion Post #487, Chester and the Chester Boat Club. He was in the U.S. Army-Air Corp during W.W. II. He served from 1943 - 1945. He was a P.O.W. in Germany for 5 months. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Air Medal with one Cluster, ETO Ribbon, 2 Battle Stars, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was active in the Community with the annual Popeye Picnic, putting letters in the Welcome Sign, and served on the City Zoning Board.
