DR. CHARLES R. YOUNG, 83, of Northbrook, Illinois, passed away at 7:15 pm, Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Midwest Palliative & Hospice Care Center, Glenview, Illinois. He was born to the late Charles J. and Faye (nee Johnson) Young on May 27, 1929 in Chester, Illinois. He married Marion Veath on June 29, 1952 at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois; she survives. He was Superintendent of Schools in Glencoe, Illinois from 1968 -1988. Prior to that he was superintendent of schools and principal in East Lansing, Michigan and Ladue, Missouri, respectively. Dr. Young was a Captain in the United States Air Force. He earned a full scholarship playing football for the University of Arkansas. Dr. Young was a founding partner of Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates, a premier national superintendent search firm. His many professional accomplishments were only surpassed by his devotion to his wife, Marion, of 60 years and to his family. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing courses around the world. Having successfully battled Amyloidosis, he once wrote," In the years that have been given to me, no joy surpasses that of being a part of the lives of seven dynamic teenagers who call me grandpa." He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Ascension in Northfield since 1968.
