LYNDA L. KOOPMAN, 71, of Houston, TX, formerly of Chester, IL, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2011 at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX. She was born to the late Arthur G. and Leonore (nee Werre) Koopman on September 4, 1940 in Red Bud, IL. Lynda graduated from St. John Lutheran Grade School, Chester High School and the University of Illinois, receiving her Bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1962, and her Master's degree with honors in1967. While at the University she was a member of Delta Sigma Omicron, Editor of Sigma Signs, a cheerleader for the wheelchair basketball team and the wheelchair square dance team. In 1995, she received the Harold Scharper Service Award for her service at the University and after graduation. She was employed by Ammunition Procurement and Supply Agency in Joliet, Illinois, and in 1967, by Shell Development Company in Houston, TX. She was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois, and was an active member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Houston. At Memorial, she served on the Stewardship Board, Ladies Evening Circle and the Sunday and Vacation Bible Schools. Lynda was also a member of the University of Illinois President's Council and has been a long time supporter of Delta Sigma Omicron and the Division of Rehabilitation Education Services. She supported the Houston Ballet, Symphony and Grand Opera; and was a member of the Houston host committee for the 1992 Republican National Convention. After retirement, she volunteered at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, enjoyed playing bridge, going out with friends, seeing plays and concerts and occasional sporting events.
