CARL H. GARDINER, 78, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 7:37 am, Sunday, December 4, 2011 at his residence. He was born to the late H. Melvin and Elsie (nee Hapke) Gardiner on September 11, 1933 in Sparta, Illinois. He was married Tootie Blechle Runge on July 17, 1965 in Farrar, Missouri and renewed their vows at St. Mary's Catholic Church on May 2, 1982; she survives. He had been the Superintendent of Industries at Menard Correctional Center in Chester, Illinois. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chester, Illinois where he also was a former member of the Parish Counsel, Choir and Marriage Encounter. He was a Navy Veteran. Carl was very active in Chester Scouting and was very instrumental in getting young people involved in scouting. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver award. He was a former assistant Scout Master of Troop #305, a former Cub Master, a former Wood Badge Course Director and was on the current committee of Troop #316. He was a Charter Member of the current Scout house in Chester.
