Paul J. Schmerbauch, 91, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 8:18 am, Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Chester Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Chester, IL. He was born to the late Louis J. and Lottie (nee: Buatte) Schmerbauch on March 22, 1920 on Kaskaskia Island, Illinois. He married Marcella Eggemeyer Surman on July 7, 1953 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chester, IL. She survives. Paul served in the US Coast Guard Merchant Marines during WWII. He was employed at the Small Arms Factory in St. Louis, MO., Prim Hosiery, New Moon and retired from Menard Correctional Center after 20 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Chester, IL where he served as an usher for 40 years, was a Charter member of the Knights of Columbus #3790, Chester, IL, a member of Eagles Aerie #3252 in Chester, IL and was an Avid sports fan.
