LEWIS E. ZWEIGART, 85, of Evansville, Illinois, passed away Thursday, December 09, 2010 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri. He was born to the late Ernest and Willie Lee (nee Harford) Zweigart on August 21, 1925 in rural Sparta, Illinois. He married Martha Kempfer on June 19, 1946 at St. John United Church of Christ, Evansville, Illinois; she survives. He was owner and operator of Zweigart Bus Service, Inc. serving the Sparta Community Unit School District 140 since 1963. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Evansville, Illinois; where he served on the church board and was a former President. He was a Corporal in the Army during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1172, Evansville and was a 2 term Commander. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3553 in Chester, IL. He was a former 2 terms Mayor of the Village of Evansville, 2 terms Board Member of the Village of Evansville and was the recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award in 2006. He was a former board member of the Illinois School Transportation Association and was the recipient of the Paunell Award of Excellence in 1996. He was a member of the Evansville Business Association. He was a friend of the Sparta School Students, Parents, Teachers and Administrators for 47 years.
