HOMER E. ESSEX, 83, of Ellis Grove, IL, passed away on Wednesday September 29, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in Chester, IL. He was born to Henry Harrison and Mattie (nee: Parker) Essex on January 28, 1927 in Villa Ridge, Illinois. He married Hazel Womack on August 9, 1987 in Chester, IL. She survives Homer was a retired officer at Menard Correctional Center. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Steeleville, ASCME Retirees, VFW Post #3553 in Chester and the Okaw Valley Beagle Club. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. Survivors: Wife: Hazel Essex Ellis Grove, IL 5 Children: James (Vickie) Essex Ashton, IL Allen Godwin DuQuoin, IL Craig (Vicki) Whittington Willisville, IL Janetta (Loren) Roche Ellis Grove, IL Katherine Dillow (Special Friend Todd Parker) Rockwood, IL 1 Brother: Colbia (Erma) Essex Villa Ridge, IL 1 Sister-in-law: Dorothy Mitchell Jonesboro, IL 11 Grandchildren 3 Great Grandchildren Preceded in death by: Parents, 3 Brothers and 4 Sisters Memorial Service: 12:00 pm, Saturday October 9, 2010 First Baptist Church, Steeleville, IL Officiating: Visitation: Saturday 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Steeleville, IL Memorials: St. Jude or Shriner's Hospital A private burial will be held at a later date.
