WILLARD E. REISINGER, 98, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 1:05 pm, Friday, July 16, 2010 at St. Ann's Healthcare Center in Chester, IL Willard was born to Frederick and Amy (nee: Rushing) Reisinger on May 29, 1912 near Murphysboro, Illinois. He married Mary E. Wheatoff on August 31, 1935 at Chester, Illinois. She preceded him in death on October 22, 1990. Willard and Mary farmed near Rockwood until they retired in 1972 and moved to Chester. Willard then worked at the Ben Franklin store in Chester until it closed. While farming, he also was a rural mail carrier and an insurance adjuster and board member of the Randolph County Mutual Insurance Company. He also built a new home for his family, cutting lumber from trees on the farm. Mary and Willard deeded a portion of their farm to the Mt. Summit Cemetery and for more than fifty years he was active in maintaining the cemetery, finally giving up his duties at the age of 96. As a young man, he worked paving Route 3 south of Chester under the WPA. Although he was only allowed to attend school through the eighth grade, Willard believed highly in the value of education. He served as a member of the Chester High School Board of Education and, along with Mary, saw that their daughters became college graduates. He was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Rockwood, IL and often attended the First Presbyterian Church in Chester.
