Clarence Albert Guebert

September 30, 1930 — June 24, 2022

CLARENCE ALBERT GUEBERT, 91, of Red Bud, Illinois, passed away at 2:14 pm, Friday, June 24, 2022 at Red Bud Regional Hospital, Red Bud, Illinois.

He was born to the late Albert Christian and Marie Catherine (nee Homrighausen) Guebert on September 30, 1930 in Red Bud, Illinois. Clarence married his beloved wife, Marjorie Pauline Cullins on January 24, 1953 at Logan Street Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois; she survives.

He was a dairy farmer and later served as office manager of the Horse Prairie Mutual Insurance Company in Red Bud.

Clarence was a dedicated, humble and hard-working man, who loved his church, family and community. His love of Christ was evident, and he was an active member of St. Peter United Church of Christ and their Brotherhood men’s group, volunteering on countless committees and held many offices. Family was of utmost importance to Clarence. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and nothing brought him more smiles than visiting with his great grandchildren.

Clarence proudly served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean War, and served many years as quartermaster for the Red Bud V.F.W. Post #6632. In 2018, he was privileged to go to Washington, D.C., on the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight. He loved the Red Bud community and humbly received the 2003 Citizen of the Year Achievement Award from the Red Bud Chamber of Commerce. Clarence enjoyed working with people and served as secretary to the North County Country Club, Red Bud Community Unit School District 132 Board of Education, and Red Bud Rural Fire Company Board. He was past member of the Red Bud Optimist Club, Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District Board, Human Service Center Board of Review and Red Bud Lion’s Club.

He and his wife, Marge, were avid travelers of Europe and the United States, and spoke of their adventures often. Dancing was another favorite, and Clarence showed off as a “jitterbug king”, dancing to “In the Mood” every chance he had. The Red Bud Musketeer basketball and volleyball programs were dear to their hearts, and each program presented an autographed ball to them for devoted attendance to their games.
