David "Umpy" J. Otten

DAVID “UMPY” J. OTTEN, 76, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 8:00 pm, Friday, March 20, 2020 at Memorial Hospital, Chester, Illinois.

He was born to the late Paul and Marion (nee Smith) Otten on April 1, 1943 in Chester, Illinois.

He married Barbara Almasy on December 24, 1985 in Walsh, Illinois; she survives.

He had been a Food Supervisor at Menard Correctional Center in Chester for over 20 years. He also owned and operated Umpy’s Bowling Alley in Chester for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending time on his farm.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Knight of Columbus #3790, V.F.W. Post #3553, American Legion Post #487, Marine Corp League, Elks Lodge #1629 and Eagles Club Aerie #3252 all in Chester. He was a Southern Illinois University of Carbondale Alumni.

He was a Vietnam Marine Corp Veteran.
