DORIS JEAN WILSON, 89, of Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, peacefully passed away at 4:16 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, surrounded by her family at R & R Country Care Senior Living, Ruma, Illinois
She was born to the late Claude Henry and Nathalie Rosa (nee Kennedy) Simpson on September 20, 1936, in Marigold, Illinois.
Doris married William “Bill” E. Wilson on August 13, 1955, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ruma, Illinois. Together, they shared nearly 58 years of marriage and partnership until his passing on June 28, 2013.
Doris began her working life as a waitress at Al & Elsie’s Restaurant in Red Bud, Illinois. For many years, she worked alongside her husband as co-owner of the B & D Standard Service Station in Red Bud. Later, they worked as Independent Mail Carriers together until their retirement in 1996. Throughout her life, Doris was always willing to lend a helping hand, often babysitting, cleaning, and ironing for families in her community.
She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ruma, Illinois, and a member of the American Legion Post #622 Auxiliary in Prairie du Rocher, Illinois.
Doris found great joy in life's simple pleasures and loved helping others. She was an avid baker who especially cherished baking cookies with her grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoyed embroidery, working on crossword and word search puzzles, and playing cards. Bingo was another favorite pastime—especially quilt bingo. She loved tuning into game shows like Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud, and she was a devoted fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball, golf, and NASCAR.
