Edward H. Powley

EDWARD HERMAN POWLEY, 94, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 10:30 pm, Monday, December 14, 2020 at Independence Care Center, Perryville, Missouri.

He was born to the late Alva Everett and Nora (nee Welten) Powley on April 1, 1926 in Pana, Illinois.

Edward married Velma Lee Duensing on June 26, 1948 at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester; she preceded him in death on August 17, 1995.

He had worked as a Stationary Engineer at Menard Correctional Center for 18 years. He had also owned and operated Superior Cleaners with his mother and brother Paul for 30 years.

Edward was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester. He was also a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #3553 and American Legion Post #487 in Chester. Edward was a former Elder and Trustee at church. He also served on District #139 High School Board, was a member of Chester Chamber of Commerce and was a Chairman of the Park Board.

He was a World War II Navy Veteran.
