GLADYS CARTER, 92, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 6:50 pm on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at Randolph County Care Center in Sparta, Illinois with her loving daughters by her side.
She was born to the late Vernon and Ruth (nee Seymour) Zang on March 29, 1934 in Chester, Illinois.
Gladys married Willis “Willie” Carter on June 16, 1969 in Chester, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 9, 2000.
Throughout her life, Gladys worked as a waitress, store clerk, and seamstress, providing alterations for many people throughout the community.
Gladys was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary in Chester, Illinois. She loved spending time with friends playing cards, bowling, and especially dancing. She also loved tending the flowers in her yard and visiting with neighbors. But her greatest love was for family, especially her grandchildren. She never missed their activities and clipped every newspaper article that even mentioned their names.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Roth and Marsha Davitz, both of Chester, Illinois; one son-in-law, Terry Frazer of Sparta, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Carol Zang of Normal, Illinois; three grandchildren, Matthew (Melissa) Davitz, Gregory (Chelsey) Davitz and Megan (Billy) Berkbuegler all of Chester; six great-grandchildren, Alden, Carter, Brynn, Bryce, Aspen and Leo, also of Chester. She is also survived by three nephews, Chris Zang, Michael Zang and Caleb Zang and three nieces, Julie Smith, Jaime Zang and Jennifer Zang.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Pam Frazer; two brothers, Virgil and Harry Zang; and one sister, Harriet Cole.
Gladys lived life to the fullest, always keeping family at the forefront. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and love her.
