He was born to Oscar and Irene (nee Stellhorn) Stamm on May 12, 1953 in Red Bud, Illinois.

Leland married Melodye Weber on February 5, 1977 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Prairie, Illinois; she survives.

He was a truck driver for Stamm Trucking and a truck driver and supervisor for the United States Postal Service.

Leland was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbia, Illinois.
