MICHAEL J. MARTIN, 72, of Red Bud, Illinois, passed away at 6:32 pm, Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Red Bud Regional Hospital, Red Bud, Illinois.
He was born to the late Clarence “Michael” and Stella (nee Ryterski) Martin on June 27, 1953, in St. Louis, Missouri.
On December 30, 1978, Mike was united in marriage to Phyllis Czerniejewski at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Belleville, Illinois. Together, they shared over 47 years of marriage, building a deep devotion to each other and their family.
Mike proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, a period of service that shaped his strong dedication to community and country. Following his military service, he built a life centered around family, craftsmanship, and faith. For over 40 years, Mike worked as a skilled carpenter for the Carpenter Union Local #662 in Freeburg, Illinois.
A man of deep faith, Mike was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, Illinois, where he faithfully served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was also deeply involved in fraternal fellowship as a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus Kaskaskia General Assembly #1287, where he honorably served as Worthy Sir Knight. He additionally held a membership with the Millstadt Sportsmen’s Club.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in deer hunting and fishing. Closer to home, he could often be found working diligently in his garden, tending to his flowers and vegetables, or collecting items to recycle. Above all, he cherished the time spent side-by-side with his son, Tim, working together on various construction projects.
