Rita T Deterding

RITA T. DETERDING , 88, of Modoc, Illinois, passed away at 7:15 pm, Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Memorial Hospital, Chester, Illinois.

She was born to the late Edward and Frieda (nee Wiegard) Heine on March 4, 1932 in Modoc, Illinois.

Rita married Les M. Deterding on April 7, 1956 St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairie du Rocher, Illinois; he survives.

Rita was the first female rural mail carrier in the State of Illinois and served the Prairie du Rocher area from 1962-1999.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, Illinois. She was a Sunday School teacher at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher, Illinois. She enjoyed playing bingo. Rita enjoyed embroidering and gave each of her 10 grandchildren a homemade quilt. She was very prayerful and prayed the Rosary everyday for her family.

Her family wants everyone to know the kind of person she was. A devoted wife, a biblical mother, a grandmother who lived out her grandchildren’s lives. She was always there to join in the fun and was usually the life of the party. She was involved in her kids and grandchildren’s good times and bad times and continually lifted them up in prayer. She was a prayer warrior for her entire family and will be greatly missed.

A Private Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, Illinois with Msgr. Dennis Schaefer officiating.

Public Graveside Service will be 12:00 pm, Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Red Bud, Illinois. We ask that everyone wears a mask and please use social distancing guidelines.

Memorials contributions can be made in Rita’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and memorials are being accepted at the Pechacek Funeral Homes in Red Bud.
