Robert J Lauber

July 9, 1929 — March 29, 2021

ROBERT J. LAUBER, 91, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away at 3:12 pm, Monday, March 29, 2021 at Laclede Groves Nursing Home, St. Louis, Missouri.

He was born to the late John and Viola (nee Borgard) Lauber on July 9, 1929 in Walsh, Illinois.

Rob married Ida Mae Mudd on April 21, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher, Illinois; she preceded in death on February 5, 2018.

Rob was a devoted husband to Mae, caring for her in her illness. He was very proud of his 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and his 4 children and their spouses. His grandchildren were his joy.

Rob worked at McDonnell Aircraft for 34 years in St. Louis Mo. His curiosity about life lead him to many interests especially to not just build planes but also fly them. He had an extraordinary analytical open mind that always looked to the future. His family all benefited from that in many ways, certainly in some awesome school science projects. Growing up on a farm he learned to build and repair anything. He was a teacher to many of math, baseball, billiards, airplanes, figure skating or cards.

In 1971, Rob and Mae happily accepted a foreign exchange student, Paulo, from Brazil into their home for a year. After 10 years of staying in touch and getting to know Paulo’s friends and family in Brazil, they traveled there. This was a remarkable trip for Rob and Mae; who never stopped learning about new people and places. Rob was also able to travel to Europe and all over the United States from Alaska to Vermont visiting children and grandchildren, but taking his grandchildren to Oshkosh Airshow was his favorite.

Rob was humble, patient, gentle of spirit, curious, never negative nor put another down and devoted to his family. His enormous generosity was extended to all family, friend and strangers.

He loved a funny story, play cards, a weekend nap with grandchildren around or to tease Mae by getting his kids to tickle her feet or buy her chocolate covered cherry every year, his favorite not Mae’s.

He will be dearly missed.
