Sr. Florence (Bernarda) Korte

SR. FLORENCE (BERNARDA) KORTE , ASC, 9 2 , of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ, passed away at 4: 22 pm, Friday, September 2, 2022 at the Memorial Hospital , Belleville, Illinois.

Sr. Florence was the seventh of twelve children born to the late Ben and Mary (nee Toennies) Korte on March 15, 1930 in Damiansville, Illinois. She made her first profession on July 1, 1947 and her final vows on July 1, 1952. She had been professed for 75 years and was looking forward to her anniversary celebration in early October.

Sr. Florence attended the Domestic Service Apostolate Institute in St. Louis, Missouri, the Food Management Institute in Canon City, Colorado, and the Council of Christian Service and the Restaurant in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated in the field of Food Service from Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1972.

Her main ministry of Food Service and Housekeeping spanned 35 years and included both small convents and large institutions in Illinois and Missouri.

Along with other ASCs from Ruma, Sr. Florence recently moved to Benedictine Living Community on the grounds of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows near Belleville, Illinois. Her final ministry was one of prayer.

She is survived by her brothers - Cyril “Pete” (Jane) Korte and Jerome “Dick” (Clara) Korte, by several nieces and nephews, and by members of the ASC Community.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers – George (Veronica) Korte, Joe Korte, Ferdinand Korte, Edmund (Agnes) Korte, and Raymond (Jeannie) Korte, her sisters – Marie (Louis) Rolves, Alvina (Francis) Luitjohan, Alice (John) Luitjohan and Sr. Mary Judith, ASC. In addition, by two aunts – Sr. Mary Gerva and Sr. Johanita Toennies and two great aunts – Sr. Rose and Sr. Augusta Klostermann, all members of the ASC community.

Memorial Mass:

2:00 pm, Monday, September 12, 2022

Benedictine Living Community at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows

Immediately following Mass, the funeral procession will travel to the Convent Cemetery in Ruma, Illinois for burial

Visitation:

Mon day – 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm

Blessing of cremated remains and sharing of memories will begin at 1:00
