Steve Deterding

ST EVE DETERDING , 71, of Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, passed away at 12:05 am, Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, Illinois.

He was born to the late Carl and Mabel (nee Franklin) Deterding on September 5, 1951 in Red Bud, Illinois.

Steve married Paulette Stirnaman on August 9, 1975 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, Illinois; she survives.

He had worked at Kellogg Coal Dock for 15 years and then as an operator at the Kaskaskia Lock and Dam for 22 years. Steve was also an EMT and volunteer fireman for the Prairie du Rocher Fire Department.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairie du Rocher, Illinois and served as President o n the P arish C ouncil. He was also the chairman for the St. Joseph Catholic Church Picnic for many years and served St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Committee. He also was a member of the Chester Non-High Board. Steve had been a Scoutmaster and Khoury League coach.

Steve was a wonderful woodworker, but his biggest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
