SUSAN E. SCHLOTTER, 56, of Marion, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on October 28, 1968, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Susan was the daughter of William and Dorothy (Main) Connolly. She grew up with a deep affection for her home state, spending joyful summers along the Jersey Shore, sharing laughter with friends, and finding serenity in the Adirondack Mountains near Minerva, New York.
A 1986 graduate of Union High School in Union, NJ, Susan went on to earn her associate’s degree in secretarial studies from Berkeley College. She worked in various office settings before choosing to devote herself fully to motherhood—a role she embraced with unwavering love and dedication. Susan was also a longtime member of Lacey (Forked River) United Methodist Church in New Jersey, where she served as church secretary.
Susan’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She had a compassionate heart for animals and welcomed many beloved pets into her home over the years. Her passions included music, attending concerts, being outdoors and fishing.
She is survived by her fiancé, Daryl Lee Simmons of Marion; her son, Patrick Schlotter, his wife Sheryl, and their children Anna and Jackson; her daughter, Carrie (Schlotter) Bohnert, her husband Michael, and their children Ryder, Josie, and Maisie; and her brother, Bill Connolly, his wife Allison, and their sons Aidan and Declan. She is also remembered fondly by many cousins and extended family.
Susan was preceded in death by her father, William Connolly.
