MELVIN "MEL" ROGER MIDDENDORF, 86, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 3:54 pm, Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri. Mel was born to the late George and Goldie (nee Grah) Middendorf on December 14, 1927 in Chester, Illinois. He married Dorothy Lee Durkee on December 1, 1950 in Chester, Illinois; she survives. Mel was a retired Construction Superintendent for Fruin Colin Construction Company in St. Louis, MO. In his earlier years, Mel co-owned Mel and Rocky's Truck Stop in Ellis Grove and then Mel and Rocky's Ford in Chester. He also worked at the Chester Concrete Plant. After his retirement he worked part time for the Gilster Mary-Lee Corporation and help set up the first plant at Perryville, Illinois. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois, V.F.W. Post #3553 in Chester, Illinois, American Legion Post #487 in Chester, Illinois, Chester Country Club and Eagles Club Aries #3252 in Chester, Illinois. He was a WWII and Korean Conflict Navy Veteran.
